Humans have been introducing snakeheads to nonindigenous waters for over years. In parts of Asia and Africa, the snakehead is considered a valuable food fish, and is produced in aquacultures fisheries motivation or by accidental release as was the case in Crofton, Maryland.

Snakeheads became a national news topic in the United States because of the appearance of C. Snakeheads are valuable food fish.

Called nga yant in Burmese, in Manipuri as ngamu , they are prized fish eaten in a variety of ways. Larger species, such as C. In the United States, chefs have suggested controlling the snakehead invasion by serving them in restaurants.

The snakeheads comprise three extant genera:. The genus Aenigmachanna was initially classified in Channidae upon its discovery, but analysis supports it being reclassified into its own family Aenigmachannidae.

After its release in non-native North American waters, either accidentally or intentionally, the aggressive and predator-free snakehead's reputation as a "Frankenfish" [17] or "monster fish" has become part of the culture [18] Besides mentions on TV shows such as The Sopranos [19] and The Office [20] and CSI:NY episode "Sangre por Sangre" and Central Park episode "A Fish Called Snakehead", the snakehead has been featured in three Sci-fi Channel original pictures entitled Snakehead Terror , Frankenfish , and Swarm of the Snakehead.

With the help of a snakehead researcher, however, Wade shows that although it is capable of living outside of water and is able to move on land, its weak pectoral muscles make movement difficult and render the snakehead an unlikely "stalker" on land.

Skywalker se u borbi za opstanak carstva mora sukobiti i sa svojim ocem Darthom Vaderom. Star Wars It's so moronic that I almost wonder why they even bothered to offer one.

Perhaps with a bit more follow-up it could have been somewhat palpable, but when you hear it you're probably going to be appalled by the lameness.

Even worse, this explanation leads to the introduction of a couple new characters that figure prominently in the third act, which is based around several people trying to capture alive a foot killer Snakehead with a tranquilizer gun and their bare hands.

I don't think so. Also, if you've just witnessed a person getting devoured by something in the water, I don't think you'd go back to tell their loved ones and stick around to have a casual dinner with them before notifying the proper authorities that there's something big and hungry on the loose.

For me, I just liked the Snakeheads and the way they went after their victims. For one thing, they didn't just use cheap CGI, as everyone else seems to do these days.

Yeah, there are numerous scenes of CGI Snakeheads, but most of those scenes are brief or are seen in quick blurs of fast action.

The filmmakers wisely made the decision to mix the CGI with animatronics, making the illusion of these huge Snakeheads more believable by being more tangible than just a computer effect.

The Snakehead effects may not be as realistic looking as the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park, but at least when they appear on-screen they won't appear so fake looking that you're inclined to roll your eyes or begin groaning.

You got heads being bitten off, people being bitten in half, faces being blown off, and my personal favorite, let's just say people and airboat fans don't mix.

There's a lot of red viscous on display here and I have a hard time believing much of it will get past the channel's censors. I'm not much of a gorehound myself but I do admit that there are movies where blood and guts can help matters and this is one of those movies.

So many of the recent slate of killer animal movies have been so tame in that department that seeing some of the gore is actually refreshing, assuming one could describe a body exploding in an airboat fan using the word refreshing.

Hey, if nothing else, Frankenfish is still better than Anacondas. CaptainBirdcat 24 May This film is possibly one of the best films of its genre to not get to the cinema.

I would go as far as saying that if it was called by another name then it probably would of. This film is perfect for you if you and your mates want to chill out and be entertained for 90 minutes without having to tax your brains with complex plots and characters.

Everything in and about this film knows what it's involved in and none of the actors try to overplay their roles. The films story is also paced great, as no character or scene fills the screen for more time than is needed for the storyline to move to its next set piece.

I bought this film solely because i like bad horror films. However, by time the credits had started to roll i was more than pleasantly surprised by how good this film was.

Yes it's filled with stock characters though its nice to have an African-American hero for a change and some foolish plot twists, but, I liked it.

Well, the characters were basically likable and well-acted by a largely unknown cast. Third, the Frankenfish were terrific, big and scary.

And, of course, there was plenty of blood and guts; surprising since the Sci-Fi channel usually edits this out. Don't go in expecting too much, just your typical large, voracious monster on the loose and you should enjoy this one.

It's not on the same level as Anaconda and Lake Placid, but it's fun and worth a watch for creature feature fans. As I've already mentioned, Frankenfish has lots of kills and some good gore peppered throughout the quick 84 minute feature, as well as nudity I never mind seeing pretty naked ladies with my B movies.

The film takes place in the bayou, and some freak fish are on the loose eating the locals. That's pretty much the plot, but the script is fun and the movie speeds along, I never checked my watch, err- cell phone once.

If you are reading this review looking for a fun creature feature with bodies being bitten in half and heads being bitten off by giant carnivorous fish in a swamp This was not a terrible movie; really.

Particularly for the SciFi Channel. There's plenty of tension, for one thing. And while some may think it's far and away too gory so why are they watching it in the first place?

Add to that a crazy 'Nam vet getting chewed on, and one of the best rotted and gnawed prop-corpses I've ever seen, and the result is a cinemagraphic experience measurably better than might be expected from the genre.

I give a 6, maybe even a 7, out of Probably would have gotten more if the CGI's had been a little better. This reminded me of two movies: "Tremors" and "Anaconda," but this film was a Class B version and cross between those two "higher class" movies.

This film had no known actors - and it showed - and the dialog was pretty stupid, too not that it was intelligent in those other films. However, I have to admit the killer fish were cool.

The special-effects on them were very good. These suckers were ugly, scary and life-like. Since most of the humans in this film were unappealing to me, I rooted for the fish.

There were several of them, pretty good-sized and pretty tough to stop. This also was like those sci-fi films of the '50s with the genetically-altered spiders or ants or whatever, making something many times larger and deadly.

Here, it was some fish in the Bayou swamps. Some of the action scenes were shocking and were, frankly, the best part of the film.

Don't expect much for the first 35 minutes, but once it kicks in, it gets pretty intense. The language is profane; the people except for the hero, of course are pretty scuzzy and stupid.

Recommended for those who want to be frightened for an hour and aren't discriminating about the quality of their film-watching!

Something big and nasty is hanging out in the Bayou, so baaad it can bite a gator to pieces. Could it possibly be a scientific experiment gone awry? Might it possibly threaten a group of people trapped in the middle of nowhere?

Is it conceivable that the above group would be offed one by one? In various bloody circumstances? Would you believe the hero and his babe will somehow survive?

Is there any way a rich evil middle-aged white male might be responsible? Is there anything in this movie you haven't seen before? Think of Deep Rising with a smaller budget.

If you like that sort of thing--enjoy. When the body of a man is found completely destroyed in the swamps in Louisiana, the medical investigator Sam Rivers Tory Kittles is assigned to investigate the murder.

He travels with the biologist Mary Callahan China Chow to the location where the victim lived in a floating house and he meets his family and friends.

They find that Chinese snake-heads genetically engineered that belong to a wealthy hunter are attacking and killing the locals.

While the group fights to survive, the hunter Jeff Tomas Arana arrives with his team to hunt the predators.

Alternating action with suspense, horror and dark comedy, there are many good moments, like for example when the biologist is shot. The conclusion is very funny and this flick is a good entertainment.

My vote is six. A man gets eaten in the swamps, so the government sends in a cop and a medical examiner. They find a group of people with eclectic qualities, and one of the meanest and biggest fish ever to try and eat a human being.

This review should have a "Jaws" reference, but it won't I'm not even going to write "they're going to need a bigger boat". Despite this film being incredibly cheesy and this cheesiness leading to my lower rating , it was also really fun in the sense of a s b-movie where things always had to be bigger.

Backwoods swamp people are fun, as are hippie Rastafarians. And then we have Chinese mafia people working for a big game hunter who have women at his beck and call.

It's really silly if you think about it so just don't. Some great effects are in this movie, as well as some really awful ones.

The bad ones pretty much revolve around the CGI of the fish The best effect for me was a shotgun blast scene I won't say who gets it that literally made me jump from my love seat and cheer.

Yeah, maybe I'm deranged. You'd be deranged, too, if your idea of a good time was staying up all night watching "Frankenfish" and "The XXXorcist". I also wanted to say that this film stood out in my mind as a film with a strong black lead.

Aside from Ken Foree and maybe Tony Todd, horror has a long history of marginalizing black characters and often kills them off as soon as possible.

But this film places a black man as the hero, without using his "blackness" as any kind of joke. It's actually sad I feel the need to point such things as this out, but horror films are one of the last genres to enter the modern world.

Anyway, you're going to find cheesy effects and cheesy acting if you watch this movie. The plot is also strange the connection between the mafia and the fish is really strained.

But I honestly liked it, so maybe this will appeal to you if you like those sorts of films Medical Examiner Sam Rivers, Tory Kittles believes the culprit is a bull shark and takes to the waters to prove it.

Along with Wildlife Agent Mary Callahan, China Chow he sets off into the river to investigate the most recent deaths of the victims.

This proves to be helpful, and the search leads them closer to the truth, but they are still pretty far away from solving it. Despite being warned away from the swamp, the two head deeper and find an abandoned fishing boat.

Existing the ship, Mary finds a giant fish scale on the bow of the ship. Another attack sends them running away. A secret organization is searching for the same boat and head off to go find it.

As Sam and Mary try to find out what the scale belongs to, a fish attacks the houseboat. Deciding to make a run for it, the fish attacks anything that moves.

After a brutal series of attacks, the organization arrives and reveals the fish to be a genetically engineered species that they have been hunting for sport.

Teaming up together, they try to make it out of the swamp alive. Amputations, dismemberment's, and decapitations are simply some of this film's more gory moments.

The most violent death is not a human killing, but is the death of the father or mother of the fish, I can't tell. Having it's face chewed up by a fan from a swamp boat for a long period of time is easily more violent than anything scene in the theaters any time soon.

Combined with the other extra-gory deaths, all combined to create a violent film.

Aubert China Chow Matthew Rauch. Povezane vijesti. Baugh and fellow fishermen Bubba Steadman found the first known northern snakehead in Mississippi in , according to the newspaper.

Baugh and Steadman are bowfishers, meaning they fish with a bow and arrow. The northern snakehead earned its nickname from its creepy appearance and unique ability to survive on land.

It's considered an invasive species due its potential to compete with native species for food and habitat. The fish has been found in at least 14 states in the U.

Snakehead fish often generate a lot of media attention when they are caught, especially the larger ones which can grow up to nearly three feet long , according to the Mississippi State University Extension.

They have rows of tiny, sharp teeth and can go dormant on land in order to survive. They can also move short distances when out of the water.

On the mainland, a team relays the information to their employer, Jeff, a wealthy bounty hunter. Later on that night Roland hears noises while on the roof of his houseboat.

He leans over the edge and a frankenfish leaps up and decapitates him. His wife Bobbi attempts to escape the houseboat on a small boat but the fish flips her out and kills her.

Frightened, the group tries to flee in boats but the fish destroys them. Trying to come with a plan to escape Sam tries to get over to Roland and Bobbi's house to try and start it up to escape but it turns out that the houseboat is inoperable.

On a neighboring stilt house, Ricardo baits a large hook using an entire catfish and manages to land one of the frankenfish. Nearly as big as a full-grown man, the fish can breathe air and hops forward biting at Ricardo's legs.

Ricardo manages to kill it with a shotgun blast to the head. In vengeance, he tears out its heart and barbecues it. As he takes his first bite a second frankenfish leaps from the water and devours him.

While everyone panics, Mary declares she has an idea on how to get off the boathouse. Before she can explain, she is killed in an explosion. A fire propels a propane tank into the boathouse causing an explosion that sends Eliza into the water.

Sam dives in and rescues her. Simultaneously, a frankenfish leaps from the water and bites off Gloria's legs. The fish have begun attacking the boathouses, punching holes in them to make them sink.

Jeff and his crew arrive and the fish attack them too. Knocked out of the boat, they swim quickly to the safety of the sinking stilt houses.

Jeff explains that the fish are genetically engineered snakeheads. Sam, Eliza, and Dan have no choice but to join Jeff in pursuing the fish.

The crew follows a trail of blood back to the fish's den. Jeff forces Sam at gunpoint to enter first. Sam flees the den as behind him a larger frankenfish kills two hunters.
